About the Journal.

The Journal of Foreign Affairs at Carolina (JFAC) is an undergraduate research journal at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that publishes undergraduate research on global affairs and current events. This student-run journal partners with the Office of Undergraduate Research and the Carolina International Relations Association to publish biannual issues showcasing student research and student photography from around the world. This interdisciplinary journal accepts submissions relating to global affairs and a wide variety of subjects including, but not limited to, economics, religion, anthropology, international relations, language, and regional studies.

Meet The Executive Team.

Daniela Paris | Co-Editor-in-Chief

Daniela Paris is a fourth-year Political Science and Peace, War, and Defense student. She enjoys learning about foreign affairs, reading about foreign affairs, and most importantly, writing about foreign affairs, with focuses on post-conflict resolution and peacekeeping as well as Sub-Saharan Africa. Outside of JFAC, Daniela has served on the board for UNC Women in National Security, where she facilitated connections between students and national security professionals. In her spare time, she enjoys climbing and going on walks with her friends. 

Jemimah Byangu| Co-Editor-in-Chief

Jemimah is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Business. She is passionate about international relations, foreign policy, history, and politics, with a strong focus on pursuing a career in law. She has worked with JFAC since her freshman year of college and enjoys the collaboration and community she has found. Outside of JFAC, she is involved with the NC Fellows Program, Tarheel Table, the NC Conservation Network, and more.  In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing/editing, volunteering at her church and for different causes, as well as hanging out with others.

Alix de Saint-Aignan | Social Chair

Alix de Saint-Aignan is a fourth-year Political Science and Peace, War, and Defense Major from Boston, Massachusetts. Within these majors, she specializes in International Security and is interested in open-source research and analysis to protect the United States. This is her second year with JFAC, having worked as a staff editor last semester. Her time away from JFAC is spent largely with the UNC Women’s Rowing Team or the US National Team in the summers. Beyond athletics, she is an editor for the Undergraduate Law Journal and conducts research with the National Counterterrorism Center. Her hobbies include a lot of rowing, reading, and petting dogs!

Janie Carpenter | Digital Editor

Janie Carpenter is a fourth-year Economics and Global Studies major from Greensboro, North Carolina, with a minor in Hispanic Studies. Within her Global Studies major, she is concentrating in International Politics, Nation-States, and Social Movements in Europe. This is her third year working with JFAC. She has previously worked as both a managing and staff editor in JFAC. Outside of JFAC and international affairs, her interests lie in investigating the intersections of economics and law. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, baking, riding horses, and spending time with friends and family.
